Since 2006 – just some months from going out of the University –  I have enjoyed the challenge of converting an ancient tuberculosis hospital in a state-of-the-art audiovisual production complex and cinema studios: Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya, http://www.parcaudiovisual.com, an exciting place ready to host all kind of international cinema, tv and commercial productions. This project has been part of public authorities’ commitment in boosting new kind of industries in a local environment, Terrassa and Spain, which is suffering a crisis time and needs to be reconverted.

I play – as Technical, Innovation and Operations Director – a key role in the project, for example: in defining general strategies; coordinating tasks of refurbishment and building new facilities – such as filming studios; managing resources and budgets; coordinating maintenance tasks and supervising the day by day of the entire complex – one of the biggest in Spain – which activity is not only oriented to audiovisual productions developed inside, but also to a cluster of 30+ companies. Or finally, by working in future new R+D projects.

My previous expertise in engineering, cinematography as also in User Experience, and applied Philosophy, allows me enjoying this challenge and reaching unique successes both for the company and for me:

In 2009, Parc Audiovisual was awarded by the European Commission as a “Best Practise”

In 2010, the spanish Ministry of Innovation funded with 5 million of euros the R+D project of Audiovisual Living Lab Terrassa: http://www.alivinglab.com; a social experiment based in a new audiovisual-production lab, developed to research and produce new media contents and during/at the end of this process, test these contents on a unique real-time laboratory: the city of Terrassa, with +200K citizens.

Personally I played a main role in the application, designing and starting of this project, being the director since it was born. Nowadays, heavy-laden by the economical crisis, the production lab is already consolidated, although the social research  is still in an early stage.
